On 20 March 2024, a milestone meeting was held in Beijing, China at which the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and the China School Sports Federation (FSSC) merged into one organization, renamed as the China Student Sports Federation (CSSF). Nearly 300 delegates from all over China elected the new board of CSSF which was composed of 94 members, with Dr. Liu Lixin as the President and Secretary General.
FSSC and FUSC were respectively established in 1973 and 1975. Since inception, FSSC and FUSC have been affiliated with FISU and the International School Sports Federation (ISF) and have played an active role in promoting the development of world university and school sports. The General Assembly reviewed the 50-year achievements of FSSC and FUSC and recognised that over the past 5 decades, China has participated in 24 editions of FISU World University Games Summer, 20 editions of FISU World University Games Winter, 19 editions of ISF Gymnasiade (Summer World School Games) and more than 70 ISF and FISU Championships and Cups. Since 2005, more than 7,000 Chinese student athletes have participated in ISF and FISU events winning 793 Gold Medals and approximately 1,800 total medals. Additionally, China has hosted three editions of FISU Games Summer (Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu), one FISU Games Winter (Harbin), one ISF Gymnasiade (Shanghai), and numerous Championships and Cups.
Vice Minister of Education, Wang Jiayi, attended the meeting and highly praised the 50 years of FSSC and FUSC achievements. He anticipated that CSSF could focus on promoting high-quality development of student sports and make more remarkable contributions on the drive to building up a country strong in education and student sports.
